Beginner Questions & Tips

Common questions from new players in Bridger Western. Controls, alignment, Moola farming, spawn strategy, and essential early-game tips.

🚀 Getting Started

Should I choose Outlaw or Inlaw?

Choose Outlaw. It gives you more freedom and is the community-recommended choice. Currently there is not much mechanical difference between the two, but Outlaw is consistently recommended by experienced players.

Where should I spawn as a beginner?

Always spawn at Red Corner. It is the closest spawn point to the fishing area, which is essential for early-game Moola farming. Choosing the wrong spawn wastes valuable travel time.

What should I do first in Bridger Western?

Start fishing immediately. It is the safest way to earn Moola without PvP risk. Head to the fishing area from Red Corner spawn and begin farming Moola to buy your first horse.

What is the wipe strategy for starting Moola?

When you first spawn, you receive random starting Moola between 50 and 500. If you get less than 200–300 Moola, press Wipe in the character menu and create a new character to try again.

How much Moola do I need to buy a good horse?

Only buy horses that cost 1,000+ Moola. Cheaper horses have poor stats and slow speed. See the Horse Guide for full stat breakdowns by rarity.

⌨️ Controls Questions

How do I sprint in Bridger Western?

Double-tap W to sprint. Your character will auto-vault over obstacles while sprinting. On a horse, hold Shift to sprint.

How do I dodge or roll?

Press Q to roll/dodge. Use this to evade incoming attacks during combat.

How do I aim down sights?

Press Z to toggle aim down sights (ADS). This improves accuracy for ranged weapons.

How do I ride a horse across water?

Hold Shift to sprint on your horse, then hold Space when entering water. This technique lets you travel across water quickly and is essential for reaching certain locations fast.

How do I use a Stand ability?

Stand abilities are activated with E, R, T, Y, F, G, H depending on the Stand. Check the Stand Abilities Guide for the full keybind list.

📈 Progression Questions

What is the fastest way to earn Moola?

Fishing is the safest early-game method. The Golden Bass sells for 15,000 Moola. See the Fishing Guide for drop rates and strategies.

What is the aging system?

Your character ages over time. You can reverse aging by bringing a Dogbane Herb (4% chest drop) to the Mud Witch for -20 years of age regression. See the Items Guide for details.

How do I get a Stand?

Stands are obtained through Arrow Shard fishing (0.1% drop rate) or Corpse Part KOTH events. There are no Stand Arrows in Bridger Western. See the How to Get a Stand Guide.

What cards should I use as a beginner?

Check the Card Builds Guide for recommended beginner setups, and the All Cards page for the complete list.

⚠️ Common Beginner Mistakes

I spawned with very little Moola — what do I do?

Use the wipe strategy: press Wipe in the character menu and create a new character. Starting Moola is random (50–500), so re-rolling until you get 200+ is a valid strategy.

I bought a cheap horse and it's too slow — what happened?

Horses under 1,000 Moola have poor stats. Save up and buy a horse worth 1,000 Moola or more. Check the Horse Guide for full stat breakdowns.

I keep dying to other players — how do I survive?

Avoid high-traffic PvP areas early on. Stick to fishing at Red Corner, use the Cowboy Hat (protects from 1 headshot), and equip a Poncho for reduced overall damage.

I chose Inlaw — is that a problem?

Not a major problem currently, as the mechanical differences are minimal. If you want to switch, use the Wipe option to restart and choose Outlaw instead.
